Joined At The Hip
This past week has been hectic! I have been busy with fittings, a photography workshop at Juju Foto Factory, and the fashion spectacle “Beautiful Monsters” presented by Coco Coquette. My “monster” was the Siamese twins brought to life by Danielle Casey and Maia McCoy. They danced to The Pierces “Secret” wearing turquoise wigs provided by Allyson Garro of Coco Coquette. This fashion show was unlike anything I have ever done. The show was hosted by the infamous Chris Lane dressed as the Wolfman while 12 iconic and mystical “monsters” danced. The audience got ravaged by zombies, bit by a vampire, and received a visit by the Grim Reaper. This costume was the most challenging design I have ever created. I had to take into account that two models had to fit in one costume AND dance. The skirt was made from 11 yards of striped fabric. I cut the fabric into 4 tiers, which ended up being 55 yards of fabric but if you include the waistband and lace the skirt totaled in 75 yards of fabric!

Zilker Park with JoAnna McCray
Last weekend I met photographer JoAnna McCray and model Alexis Morgan at Zilker Park, where Austin City Limits was two weeks prior. I brought along four looks and we improvised the entire shoot. Now that I have photos of a majority of my new collection I’m hoping to post it for sale on etsy soon!

ShelbyJean wears Kramp Kouture
I could not resist another opportunity to collaborate with model ShelbyJean. I mailed her a look from my Austin Fashion Week collection for an upcoming photoshoot with DayJaVue Photography. The collaboration also included makeup artist Svio and Rockstarwig.com. Once again I am blown away by the image ShelbyJean provided me with. I hope to arrange many more shoots with her!

Austin Fashion Week Showcase and Awards Ceremony
Five weeks before Austin Fashion Week officially “kicked off” I got an acceptance letter that I was selected as a showcase designer for this years fashion week. My showcase pairing was with Ulta Beauty, which was the host of my event. Together we organized a fashion show along with a meet and greet with the stylists and myself. Ulta Beauty provided hair and makeup featuring the talented freelance makeup artist Shane Mikeska. Erin Shorts styled my mini collection with unique one-of-a-kind jewelry of Shalotlilly and accessories provided by Charming Charlie. Guests enjoyed tunes spun by DJ the “Mexican from Mars”, mocktails, and sweets at the candy bar.
I had a fantastic time working with my team of stylists and models. Throughout my entire show the only chaos that took place was a necklace broke. That being said, my show ran like a dream.
The day of my show my Mash Up Team model Dominique Bedford told me the exciting news that our team was nominated for the Timothy White Award for Best Mash Up Team Photograph. Timothy White is one of the most-respected portrait photographers in the world with credits for shooting Iggy Pop, Blondie, Keith Richards, and many more celebrities. He handpicked three nominees and the winner, which he personally announced at the Austin Fashion Awards.
Since I was on the nominees list, I received one ticket for the Austin Fashion Week Awards and After Party. Unfortunately my team did not win the Timothy White Award but it is an honor to be nominated in the Best Mash Up Team category two years in a row. Even though we didn’t win I feel like a winner, it’s such an honor to be nominated for an Industry Award and have an industry professional like Timothy White recognize our efforts.

Style, Speed, and Glory – Austin Fashion Week Kickoff Event
Launch787 opened Austin Fashion Week last night with its annual Kickoff Event: “Style, Speed, and Glory” at the Cowboy Harley-Davidson Showroom. The event began with a runway show featuring collections from Betsey Johnson and MotorClothes by Harley-Davidson. After a brief intermission, another runway show took place featuring 21 looks from the Mash Up Teams. Each team recreated the look submitted from their Mash Up Team photo. Check out the photo of my model on the runway and footage of the event on CW Austin.

Get Your Vote On!
Austin Fashion Awards voting is now open! This year Mash Up Teams are eligible for a People’s Choice Award, there is no longer an Industry Choice Award. In place of the Industry Choice Award is the “Timothy White Award for Best Mash Up Photograph.” Timothy is one of the most-respected portrait photographers in the world (with credits for shooting Iggy Pop, Debbie Harry, Michael Jackson, Keith Richards, Ray Charles, James Brown, and the list goes on and on). Timothy will be evaluating each photo based on his own criteria and will determine 3 nominees and a winner.
Below is my Mash Up Team photo; this look will be recreated for the runway on August 20th for the Kickoff Event held at the Cowboy Harley Davidson. Vote for my mash-up team here.

Behind the Scenes: Mash Up Team Photo Shoot
Two weeks ago Matt Swinney, the founder of Austin Fashion Week announced the team members of this years Mash Up Teams. My team is made up of Grant Reid (photographer), Bobbie Chuang (Makeup Artist), Kendall Koehler (Hair Stylist), and Briolette (Jewelry Designer). One week ago several of my team members attended the model casting call at the Driskill Hotel and we selected our lovely model Dominique Bedford. After countless emails and location scouting my team met bright and early yesterday and shot all afternoon on South Congress. Below are some behind the scenes photos. On August 20th, all teams will recreate the look created in their photo for the runway at the Austin Fashion Week Kickoff Event at Cowboy Harley Davidson.
