BurdaStyle DIY Fashion Show Recap

After my website has been on hiatus for several days allow me to update you on the BurdaStyle DIY Fashion Show! Sunday morning started with a meet and greet with the BurdaStyle team and designers involved in the show. It was so nice to meet all the other designers and talk about fashion, SXSW, and practice the run through for the show. Later in the afternoon, I met my model Jasmine Van Dyke at Vanity Salon to consult hair and makeup styling. Upon arriving at Venue 222, I was photographed by World Fashion Watch and interviewed by Society HAE. The fashion show featured 15 designers from all over the U.S. including a finale with all the designers and models sharing the stage. Afterwards I enjoyed using my drinks tickets at the bar, having photo ops, and relaxing after 13 hours of preparing for the show. I hope BurdaStyle makes the DIY Fashion Show an annual event; I had such a wonderful time!

BurdaStyle + Etsy = Meet & Greets, Fashion Shows, and Tacos!

Today is officially the start of SXSW Film + Interactive! This weekend is going to be packed full of fashion events starting with a meet and greet Sunday morning followed by a hectic day of getting my model in hair and makeup and runway ready. Tomorrow I will be putting the finishing touches on the look my model and I will be wearing. I can’t wait to show off the new dress I made! Monday I plan to check out Plutopia 2011 – “The Future of Play” at SXSW Interactive featuring a futuristic fashion show, music, and ROBOTS! Then possibly attend Taco Tuesday at Takoba (say that three times fast!)

Wear and Tear

Since my move to Austin, Jasmine Van Dyke has been the first model to arrange a photoshoot with my designs. Since working with her last August I have been dying to work with her again. I was so excited to hear from her again that she wanted to use one of my designs in an upcoming shoot. Jasmine had a session with photographer Jade Noir along with a team of hair and makeup artists. The photos turned out incredible! Jade’s style of photography really complimented my dress. I’m excited to announce that this look will be featured at the BurdaStyle Fashion Show on Jasmine! I can’t wait for this fashion show – 11 days and counting…

Daddy Needs a New Pair of Shoes!

I can’t believe that it’s been almost 6 months since the last Fashionably Connected Networking Event! Last Thursday I attended the event at the Westin Hotel lounge, the new location was a nice change of pace. The event started with the usual meet and greet. It was so nice to reconnect with members of the fashion community and meet new people. Later on, Melissa Shea and Cheryl Bemis of Fashionably Austin announced exciting news that they will be attending Paris Fashion Week and the crew of Fashionably Houston talked about their experience at New York Fashion Week. Local sponsor Spring Frost Boutique had a raffle for a $50 gift certificate and I won! I will have to check out their shopping event on Thursday and use my gift certificate.

Austin Snowstorm 2011

The weather has been crazy this week. The temperature dipped down to the teens last night and we got about two inches of snow in Austin. There was even a hailstorm a few days ago! Luckily when I had to do some traveling this morning I still had my ice scraper in my trunk, I’m probably one of the only people in Texas that owns one. Since the roads are covered with snow barely any businesses are open and travel has been awful. Fortunately I got some orders shipped and did some fabric shopping. Now I can enjoy my weekend working on new designs, watching “Unzipped” (along with a handful of other fashion related films), and sipping hot cocoa.

Officially Fashionably Austin!

I am officially an Austin Fashion Designer! I am a member of Fashionably Austin, a networking website specifically designed for the local fashion community. Fashionably Austin gives updates on upcoming industry events and up-to-date information about Austin-based fashion designers. I regret that I could not attend the recent World Wide Maniac Foundation Launch Party that featured a runway show including former Heatherette designer Richie Rich.

Stag Party

South Congress Avenue and North & South Lamar Boulevard in Austin is packed full of great boutiques for designer and vintage finds. STAG is a new men’s apparel and lifestyle brand located at 1423 South Congress. STAG carries more than designer tees, shoes, and sunglasses. This men’s boutique is packed with vintage shirts, designer denim, and rare finds like taxidermy accessories and Blacksploitation poster prints. I had to get my hands on the silver fox tails they had for sale, something straight from Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2010 ad campaign. I suggest you stop in STAG and like they say on there website, “…ask us for a beer when you stop in. We’d love to share a drink and shoot the shit with you.” Now that’s my kind of shopping!

Ghost World

I’ve always had that fantasy of running away from my hometown and starting out fresh in a big city. I’m happy to say I made my big move to Austin, Texas. So this somewhat explains my lack of blogging and updating my website. Now that I’m settled into my new place, I’ll update what has happened in the Kramp Kouture world within the past two months.
