Christian Joy is among my list of “Favorite Fashion Designers”, and there are many reasons why. Joy is an influential DIY fashion designer best known for designing Karen O of the Yeah Yeahs Yeahs stage costumes. Having no formal training she got her start by re-designing old prom dresses and creating one-of-a-kind pieces.
Though Joy has not released a collection since Spring 2009, 2010 is going to be a “Joy-ous” year. January 2010 Joy released her Spring 2010 collection, which is for sale on Etsy. Also be on the lookout for a documentary on Joy and her husband Jason Grisell.

Hearing the news that designer Alexander McQueen was found dead in his home in London today came as a complete shock. He was such an extraordinary talent. Thank you for sharing your vision Mister McQueen.

I finally got the chance to sit down and finish a petticoat today. I have been testing different techniques, tutorials, and materials. In the process of making a petticoat it definitely helped improve my gathering and french seam skills. If you plan on making your own, I suggest practicing with tulle instead of crinoline. Crinoline tends to fray a lot, so buy some Fray Check.
I can’t wait to wear it out, I’ll feel like a mini Betsey Johnson.

Last January I had the pleasure of meeting Bobby Ray, a contributing photographer for DISfunkshion Magazine. He is a Miami based photographer that was traveling through the area to visit friends and booked photo shoots along the way. He contacted me and another local model to do a photo shoot with my designs and kill two birds with one stone in the process. Fast forward nine months where I got my hands on a copy of DISfunkshion’s September issue to find a photo of myself in it! Needless to say it was a big surprise and I got in the next issue too. But this month is an even more special issue, my fashions are featured in it!
